That first sip of lemon iced tea felt so good on my tongue. As I begin my ritual of writing what’s on my conscience, I hear a single engine plane through the walls of my room. I’m pretty sure it’s my bubby from over the state park, practicing his/her takeoffs and landings at the nearby airfield. The sound is not so much an annoyance as it is a reassurance that practice makes perfect. In a world hell-bent on doing everything by the seat of its pants.
Knee-jerk reactions are what has gotten me in as much trouble as I am today. My beliefs tell me to practice patience. But in reality, that’s a thing my primate brain seems to not understand. So I do my best to surround myself with silence, hoping that will tone down my impulsive thoughts. The long drone of the planes engine continues to swirl in the room. While the noise from my wife’s TV bleeds in my ear. I choose to focus on the plane, rather than the noise forced upon me. With excited voices, in order to grab your attention. The mindless news anchors are more focused on holding you captive, than telling you the truth. Still the plane is a pure practice of joy and passion. So what do we take away from this? Be mindful of the simple pleasures that make life…life. Do your chores, yes with a whole heart. Being aware that life is more the just noise, it’s a journey to be enjoyed like a good glass of tea.
