We all have cameras, we all have film. To validate who we are. But when faced with billions other cameras, how do we measure up? That’s the question I asked myself at 2:30 in the morning when I couldn’t sleep, so out of habit I grabbed my phone and watched Tik Toc videos. Over the course of some 30 minutes I slid over frame after frame of some lonely person or con or youngin trying to feed her family. Either selling, swindling, showing what they can just to get my attention. I guess for me living on my retirement with and least a back-up cushion of my kids to count on. It’s easy for me to say, “Do they feel no shame”? But just as Everlast sings, “Do you really know what it’s like…to sing the blues”. Where do we get the right to judge? So I went back to bed more haunted by the images on the screen. Thinking about the millions more who cannot document their pain. Living alone in a bubble of their own fear and shame. With the fear that some day the door will be pounded in, and some out-of-shape bootlicker puts his boot across their face, just to feel like a man. I ain’t saying I got all the answers to every problem out there. I mean every month due to rising cost, I’m having the rob “Peter to pay Paul” just to survive myself. I guess all I’m trying to say is instead of anger how about trying a little bit of empathy first. Just like that sign on Granddaddy’s cash register, “I had no shoes and complained till I met a man who had no feet”. A powerful lesson from a Mom and Pop store owner that offered credit to his neighbors till they could pay. I wish you could teach lessons like that to the elite and their bootlickers that rule the world now.
