In a country as large as the United States I suppose it’s easier to get distracted from the everyday worries by big government. Here on Lucille Ave. we got other things to worry about like making sure the light bill is paid and that the trash can is in front of the house on Friday mornings for pickup. But don’t worry the 24/7 news and social media will never leave you alone. Everyday my email and text messages are full of people wanting my money and my vote. By my very unscientific count 5.5 billion dollars has been spent of this year’s presidential election. Now with around 162 million registered voters, that rounds out to about $34 per voter. I don’t know about you, but that amount doesn’t sound too unreasonable. But considering I never saw a presidential candidate unless I wanted to drive hundreds of miles costing me gas, food, and motel money them. Not to mention maybe a t-shirt, flag, a or bumper sticker, I guess I come out in the good just watching commercials.
I guess I shouldn’t make fun over something everybody seems to be soiling their underwear over (I can do that just fine by myself). I guess my point is, can I pay my light bill? Will my garbage get picked up on Friday? Anything beyond that is mostly hyperbole until the mass media on both sides demands their “pound of flesh” (AKA, my attention). So go vote if you haven’t already. No matter what I’m not stressing out, but I’ll be praying for the best. Because given the track record of congress the past decades, they ain’t going to do nothing anyway. Maybe someone should forget to pick up their trash.
