I woke up this morning in a certain frame of mind. The song “Young Without Lovers” by John Mellencamp was playing on repeat in my head. Then I got to my study, drew back the curtains and opened the windows. It was the brightest day I’ve seen this week with the silence of the highway almost deafening. Still I got my medication taken without losing the rhythm playing in my head. Dressed like I’m ready for spring in a grey pair of shorts with a light green t-shirt with a green plaid oxford over it. I feel a little like I’m back in the eighties with an Izod pullover, pleated pants, and a red Izod sweater draped over my shoulders. It’s a fitting thought to relive those days for a moment. Especially when life seems so bleak in these times of production and chasing a rainbow that never comes. I feel for the kids that have to grow up during this time. Watching Ms. Rachel and Peppy Pig, seeing the world of imagination and wonder, while right outside the door their parents cry over student debt, and the rising cost of living. All knowing their children are inheriting a world their grandparents didn’t care to change. Singing tunes about, harmony and love. All the while blaming the new family down the street for inflation and the rising crime rate. All because of their nationality, race, religion, or sexual preference. What a proud people we are to call ourselves the chosen few. When we see the rest of the world as the “other”. When our own Good Book says, “…You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39 ESV) Listen while this country gives you the right to think that way. We are a country built on the rule of law that is a living document. It changes as we change and grow. To tell people that are different than you that they are no longer welcome, is defeating the very idea in which this country was built. For we are all immigrants. #Thoughts #CriticalThinking #Immigration #RuleOfLaw #Compassion
