We Hold True

After an early morning of filling my head full of empty calories doom scrolling. The sun rose up to start another shiny cloudless day. Thoroughly spoiled by the creature comforts of this new apartment. I can see how some people have become so isolated to their world views. At first you would think with our shiny technology that by now would be Sophisticated enough to see all worldviews.

But instead I fear we have become more isolated than ever. Believing that our way of thinking is the only way to think. When I first delved into social media it was wonderous to meet and get to know people from literally around the world. But at the same time I had a hard time justifying some of their core beliefs with mine. This was especially true when it came to respecting my friends of the Muslim faith. But with my own questions of faith with my Christian upbringing. I began to see more similarities then I did differences. Thus granting me the openness to befriend all faiths.

Still since the Covid Epidemic of the past few years. It appears that we have become more susceptible to the fear and suspicion that have plagued us for a millennia. But now more than ever, I see those same tribal divisions dividing us even farther, splintering us into warring political parties, races, and genders…again. Writing this now I’m giving myself a throbbing headache. Just thinking about the pigeonhole I’m painting myself into with my family. So what do we do, war amongst ourselves, “Till there can be only one?”

Common sense, enlightenment, and trade tell us to live and let live. But along our individual borders commonality remains supreme. Till without a certain degree of unity we all doomed. We have one earth with limited resources. For thousands of years the sword divvied up the spoils of our conquests. Maybe now it’s time for that to stop, maybe it’s time to see what we all hold true, instead of what we don’t.
